René Michau Head the Fintech Client Advisory Team to build a new business at Standard Chartered focused on meeting the needs of Fintech companies as clients and helping them to connect their business across the emerging markets in particular in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

With a passion for financial infrastructure that helps people and companies succeed the Fintech Client Advisory team has been developing and implementing the Fintech client strategy at Standard Chartered and is working to help companies grow their platform in new markets. René co-chairs the Virtual Currency Working Group at Standard Chartered covering the work on blockchain, tokenized assets and cryptocurrencies. He also co-led the bank’s collaboration with a major Chinese firm to develop their blockchain based, real-time cross-border, wallet-to-wallet payments solution.

René joined the bank in 2016 and is based in Singapore. Prior to this he worked at HSBC leading the payments and collections product business across Asia Pacific and developing product innovations leveraging mobile wallets and a range of new technologies improve the customer relevance of legacy platforms. Rene has also worked at ANZ and National Australia bank where he was awarded for innovation in relation to the establishment of a cloud based merchant platform and the establishment of a carbon trading capability.

Prior to banking René served as an officer in the Australian Army, he is married with three daughters and is passionate about Rugby Union.
